Foreman 30A

The calves from this mating should be super thick and correct and have lots of capacity and muscling,  Red Nan 1049 was the high selling female in a former Waukaru sale and she has pretty much done everything since we arrived here. She has produced some excellent calves including a Crooked Post Stockman son that sold for $8000 in the Sun Country sale. She milks well and is very fertile. She has been an exceptional donor cow and we have sent embryos to many countries from her, She is a full sister to Waukaru Orion who was a herd sire at Waukaru.

We mated her to Foreman for this flush as he has sired some exceptional offspring with great depth and capacity and excellent fleshing ability. The calves should be nice roans. Foreman was the Grand Champion bull at Agribition and went on to do a great job at Bell M as a herd sire.

Rene Dottie 72R

Ultra 8C
If every cow I owned was like Dottie 72R, this business would be pretty easy. She is now 15 years old and still looks like a 6 year old. She has produced 6 natural bull calves that have averaged over $5800 in the Sun Country sale. She raised her 7th bull in 2020 and he may be the best one yet. He will sell in the Sun Country sale on March 9th She is very fertile and settles every year to the first service. We have sold 30 embryos from her to US breeders this year alone. Eionmor Ultra 8C was a tremendous bull that I have always felt came along in the wrong era. He was used in several countries and came back as a mature bull to be a herd bull at Eionmor for several years. He sires excellent calves of both sexes.

SULL Pat Attention

These embryos are stored at Hawkeye Breeders Service, Adel, Iowa and are NOT exportable to Canada or any other country.

I have always been impressed with CYT Max Rosa 1111 and these embryos were purchased from Cates Farms with the intention of implanting them in the US and importing the pregnant recips into Canada. The Max Rosa cow family has produced numerous show winners in the US. Max Rosa 1111 is a full sister to the two time Louisville NAILE Grand Champion, CYT Max Rosa 9111.

SULL Pay Attention 2221 was a calving ease sire that was a herd sire at Cates Farms but was lost at a young age. He was a most impressive bull!

These embryos can be sold to anyone living in the US or a Canadian can implant them in the US and bring the pregnant recips into Canada and calve them out here. This is an opportunity to add some of the best American genetics to your breeding program.

This flush has already produced Paintearth Cory 46C who was the 2017 Canadian National Champion bull and is a herd sire for the Coleman family in Alberta. J-Lo 3T was a full sister to one of the best females we ever owned m New beginnings Elsies Jade. 3T and Elsie Jade were incredibly easy fleshing and very fertile females. Saskvalley Primo 40P was a herd sire at Alta Cedar and Diamond Shorthorns in Alberta and he left numerous excellent offpring.

2) Frimley Rene Dottie 72R X Paintearth Rama 53U

Dottie has done everything right here and she is an amazing female. She is now 15 and we are hoping we can flush her again next soring after she calves, We need more females like her. Paintearth Rama 53U has been used around the world and  is known for producing quality no nonsense beef Shorthorns. He was the herd sire at Creekside in AB for several yeara.

3) Waukaru Red Nan 1049 X Crooked Post Stockman 4Z

Red Nan wes the high selling female in the Waukaru sale and she has been a good brood cow and an amazing donor here. 86Z is an own daughter of Sprys Maid X147, the outstanding female that was in the Sprys herd in Australia and is sired by Waukaru Patent 8161. We have sold embryos from 86Z around the world and one of our best bred heifers this year is a daughter of hers as well.

A daughter of 22Y

This genetic combination has proven to work. It resulted in our best heifer in 2016 that is now at Shadybrook Farm, West Brome, QC and also produced our best bull calf in 2017. Cinderalla 22Y is a extremely long bodied cow with a great udder and lots of milk. Free Spirit is our former herd sire who was one of the best breeding bulls we ever used. He is also being used in Australia and in Ireland.  He spent his last breeding season at Starbright Shorthorns in Alberta.

Cinderella 22Y

Starburst
Here is something a little different. We mated our Cinderella 22Y donor with FSF Starburst 258, who has produced many winning steers and heifers in the US. Cinderella 22Y was from an outstanding dam, Ar Su Lu Cinderella 61 who was one of the high selling females in the Sr Su Lu dispersal in Nebraska. She produced here until she was 15 years old. The resulting calves should be super stout and this should be a very economical way to produce some excellent steers and heifers for your kids to show. I predict the resulting ET calves will be moderate framed, and thick. They should also have extra body length and lots of eye appeal.

Fairest Faye 25l

Hawkeye 22W

a daughter
HC Fairest Faye 25L was one of the females that Kim Anwender selected from us when she decided to re-establish their purebred Shorthorn herd. She was an excellent producer for them including a daughter, ACC Faurest Faye 14Z being the Grand Champion female at the 2013 Canadian Western Agribition.  25L was Ted Serienko's favorite female in our herd at that time.
We shared a flush in 25L with Anwenders and we used their Hawkeye bull who resembled his sire< Saskvalley Pioneer 126P more than any other bull we have seen. Hawkeye left many good offspring in the Anwender herd
These embryos are not exportable as they were not trypsin washed when they were collected so here is an opportunity for Canadian breeders to add some first class genetics. The resulting calves will be maternal sibs to an Agribition champion female!

Scottys Maid 48Z

Stockman

full sib to embryos

Scotty's Maid 48Z came here when we purchased her in partnership with Martyn Moore from England in the 2016 Shadybrook sale where she was the high selling bred female at $14,700. She is a model Shorthorn female and every visitor has found her and asked what she was. A group of Australian cattle producers stopped her two years ago, and they went so far to call her the best female they had seen in Canada. I am not going to go that far, but I will say she packs a lot of thing together right. Not only is she a great looking cow, but she is also a great producer and a super donor female. She is super fertile and has a great udder, milks well and stays in great condition year round on only grass and hay.
Crooked Post Stockman 4Z is well known as a sire of outstanding and functional offpsring. He is one of the best bulls  being used in Canada today. I have posted a picture of a bull calf born in the Strathendrick herd in Scotland this year, that resuilted from an embryo from this flush; The calves resulting from these embryos will be full sibs to this bull calf.

Study your lessons on this lot. This is an opportunity to acquire some good genetics at very realistic prices.

I have been saving this semen for a special flush but have decided to offer it as a sale feature in this sale.  Leader 21st was a bull that has been called the bull that saved the Shorthorn breed from disappearing in the 60s and early 70s. Leader 21st was born in 1960 so this semen is almost 60 years old, and we flushed with some of this cane a few years ago and had great results, There may be a few more doses of it around but it is extremely hard to find.   OPPORTUNITY TIME!

Ultimate 130K at 8

a 130K daughter
130K was a herd sire at Muridale for several years and his influence is still visible in their herd. This was a tremendous beef bull and his offspring are the same. He was a horned bull but when you find a bull with this much power, this should be the least of your worries.  The picture of 130K shown with this lot was taken by myself after he had just been pulled from the breeding pasture at 8 years of age. He looked like he could have walked into any show ring in the country. His daughters have always been some of my favorites in the Muri herd.
Several years ago, I sold several embryos to Sprys Shorthorns in Australia and some 130K sired embryos were included. One of the first calves from one of the Ultimate 130K daughters was the top selling bull in Sprys sale at $23,000.   This 130K female at Sprys is also pictured with this lot.

Homedale Creole 135
I imported this semen from Creole 135 from Frank Kaehler in Minnesota after I saw some of his daughters there and he told me that this bull was a great bull to use on heifers because of his calving ease. His calves are born easily and he is homozygius polled. His daughters are making great moma cows with great udders. They are moderate framed, feminine and smooth,  and easy fleshing,  I offered a cane of this semen in this sale two years ago, and it was purchased by Hill Haven to use on their heifers. If you want to know how he worked for them, contact Matt at Hill Haven and I'm pretty sure he will tell you how impressed he is. This is another sale feature in the semen side of this offering. I really recommend this bull if you are looking for a calving ease bull that also gives you calves that are good breeding pieces.

Irish Mist

TF Irish Mist was one of the high selling bulls at the Dean Farms dispersal in Texas and he was very much like his sire Highfield Irish Mist. He was also called a Polled full Irish bull but he is registered as being horned. It was reported that he was born with no horns and had never had any horns removed. We had a few calves from him several years ago, and they were all polled and they were born easily. They were very good calves and all became productive animals. I have no problem believing that he may well have been polled as we had two full Irish calves from Irish Mist and horned cows that only grew very small scurs that were very loose and not attached to the animals skull. I always thought this was probably because they were descentants of the cattle that the breed arose from and were named. that is Short Horns.

This bull was never promoted much and his owner from the US went out of business shortly after he purchased him. I had got some semen from this bull as we were very low on Irish Mist semen. He has a very unique pedigree as his dam is a daughter of Rocklands Drake and the original Shannon Margie cow. The Margie cow family is still very prominent in the breed around the world.

CCS Shoshone

Shoshone son

I will always remember traveliing to Lednura Farms in Quebec and seeing the first calf crop from CCS Shoshone there. They were one of the thickest most uniform sire groups I have ever seen!  Shoshone was named Canadian National Champion as a yearling and he went on to become an excellent breeding beef bull. His dam is still in my top 10 cows that I have ever saw and she would be considered to be a tremendous cow in any era, his sire was a powerful beef bull and he should have been used a lot more than he wss. He was very impressive. The pedigree of Shoshone is packed full of some of the best producing sires and females in the past several decades. This is a bull who deserves to be used again!!

Shoshone is a bull that should have received far more recognition than he has received. He deserves to be used again!

Astronaut was a direct son of Deerpark Leader 13th and he was selected by Dale Wernicke of Wernacres Shorthorns in Illinois to he a herd sire there. When his first calves arrived, Astroanaut became a leading AI sire and for a few years he was one of the most used sires in North America. He was promoted as being "The Foundation Sire" and he certainly was the sire of many foundation females  Bell M is Saskatchewan owned the Canadian semen rights in him as well. He was red with white markings and he left lots of good roan calves. He is 100% in the CSA closed herd book

Hubs Director
Director is an example of the best dual purpose sires. He was born in 1975 in the well known Hubs herd in Kansas that has been the foundation of many great Shorthorn lines over the years. Director was a herd sire in the Hubs herd for several years to continue the heritage of his sire HHKA Buttercups Prince 20. His dam was considered to be one of the very best cows in the breed when she was in her prime, She produced in the Hubs herd until she was 16 years old.
Hubs Director was also used as a model Shorthorn bull by the American Shorthorn Association for several years as well. and he is also a Heritage Shorthorn sire. This is the only semen left in Canada that I am aware of from this legendary sire.

Moombi Powerplay was an Australian bull that was born in 1989. His semen was imported into Canada in 1991 and he sired some excellent offspring. Two breeders have told me this year, that some of their best cows have Moombi Powerplay in their pedigrees. His pedigree is a complete outcross to almost all modern day Shorthorns. He was sired by a Australian legend named Wyarama Pepper who most people say was far ahead of his time. His dam was Mandalong Enia 6th, from the famed Mandalong herd in Australia.  This is a bull that deserves to be used again.

One memory I have is visiting the good herd of the late Victor Gislasonm Leslie, SK and seeing a most impressive Powerplay daughter. At the time we had an order for an exceptional show heifer from an American breeder. When we saw the heifer, I called him and was told to try to buy the heifer and to offer him 18,000 US. I was almost certain Victor would accept this offer,. When offered this for the heifer, Victor turned it down!  He said he had never produced a heifer as good as her, and he wanted the heifer far more than he wanted the money.

If you study Canadian Shorthorn pedigrees, you will find Powerplay back in the pedigree of some pretty good cattle.

Theodore

a daughter
Weebollabolla Theodore T85 is considered one of the most influential sires in Australia in modern day history. Some Aussie breeders say that Theodore was responsible in bringing many commerical producers down there back to using Shorthorn bulls again. His daughters are also most impressive brood cows and they can be found in many of todays best breeding stock in Australia. I have had two daughters of Theodore in our herd and both of them rose to the top as producers. There is very little Theodore semen left in Canada so this will be one of the few opportunities to obtain him.  Most of the remaining semen stored in Canada has been returned to Australia by the Job families as they plan to use him again in their Marellan and Royalla herds.
